Not directly. The Soviets invaded Afghanistan and we trained the Taliban to fight against them.
I'm talking about a direct fight.

Well yes of course not. You're right, the US and the Soviets fought lots but never directly. It was always the 2 countries aiding someone else to achieve a similar result. Korea and Vietnam were 2 locations of such conflicts.

Most of these supports have remained, in a way. THink about. We are still in Afghanistan, except the people we supported are now our enemies. If a malignant nation were to support them, which is already happening in most places(Iran supports Hezbollah who is against Israel who we support) than we would go to war.

I have another example. We just made a nuclear deal with India. India and Iran are almost neighbors, separated by Pakistan. Russia supports Iran and is building them a nuclear reactor, and the US supports India, and we're helping them out with their civil nuclear energy.

Arghh! This is a latent cold war, one that is not seen as a threat to anyone but is still occurring. I forgot about the Nuclear Deal the US had with Pakistan. It seems that during these times we work with another to accomplish our goals.
So, Russia helps Iran who helps Hezbollah, and we help India and Israel. This is going to go all over the place in the near future. We will station ourselves in the hostile and volatile places of the world by using another.

Not yet, but when the US and Russia make more and more deals with more and more countries in the hostile areas. Does Russia have any relations with North Korea ? Im not sure if the US is still involving itself in South Korea, but if so, and Russia is involving itself in North Korea, there is one of the most unstable areas of the world right now. And China isn't exactly our best friend either.... I see WWIII!

Our relations with China are improving, and Russia is making a backslide into the Communist era with Putin as their leader. Putin doesn't want to give up his position either, and the elections are in 08. Before the Russian elections, something big is going to happen.

I've heard that Putin is returning to Communist ways somewhere before, in the manner that in some situations he has elected government officials himself instead of letting the people do it. If that is true, and something happens before the '08 elections, then we would need an FRDish or JFKish president to lead us through, and sadly those presidents have long dissappeared.
Another topic, presidents of the US are remembered by the most notable things they did. Ask a random person what Kennedy did, and they will say that he forwarded the space program and fought for civil rights. Nothing about the Bay of Pigs. Ask anyone what Nixon did, and they will say Watergate. If that is true, our president will not remembered for tax cuts but for the war in Iraq.

Well, the media is to be thanked for that.
Putin was part of some Soviet organization and is an ex-Communist. The thing is, Boris Yeltsin himself hand-picked Putin to be his successor.
Yes, the thing about the Russian 08 elections, if something big does happen and we end up with a war-ready Soviet Union, we better get ready to vote in a President in our elections who knows what he'll be doing.

...I should watch the news more often, I haven't heard of the half of the things mentioned here. Now I can see why you think a soon to come Cold War or WW3 is inevitable. I wonder if they would get John Carry to do the job if something like that were to happen.

No. Not Kerry. He already lost the election for the Democrats, and he insulted every American soldier in Iraq by saying only those who aren't intelligent end up there. He will not be running for President. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Senator John McCain become President. I think he'd know what he'd be doing, but then again, you can't really know.

Yeah, it seems that he is often publicized in the media. I have not yet seen intense insults against him by the media, and his opinions are often publicized by them. I wonder though. The '08 elections should be interesting. Do you know of any other nations that Russia is supporting through nuclear means?

No, I don't. But another interesting fact about all of this preparation for a nuclear war stuff is that the United Kingdom is now expanding its nuclear fleet.
It's funny how not even China, North Korea's clostest ally, is supprting NK's nuke program. China is now even searching all vehicles going into NK to see if any nuclear material is being smuggled into the country. That's old news, but still.
Hmm...there is only one nation that would be anything close to a possibility of Russia supporting it's nuke program, and the would be Pakistan, and that is horribly unlikely. Maybe China, but they're holding out on their own.
