I was reading about the real John Locke(LOST is a show guys) the philosopher and I came across this:
Locke was awarded a bachelor's degree in 1656 and a master's degree in 1658. He obtained a bachelor of medicine in 1674, having studied medicine extensively during his time at Oxford and worked with such noted scientists and thinkers as Robert Boyle, Thomas Willis, Robert Hooke and Richard Lower. In 1666, he met Anthony Ashley Cooper, 1st Earl of Shaftesbury, who had come to Oxford seeking treatment for a liver infection. Cooper was impressed with Locke and persuaded him to become part of his retinue.
Anthony Cooper was the name of John Locke's(in LOST) father. DO you think that is jsut a coincidence or is did the writer's draw from the real Locke's life?
Another thing I saw when I reread this post is that AC had come to Oxford seeking treatemnt for a liver infection. This is pretty close to Anthony Cooper in LOST's kidney disease.

Yes, I knew that John Locke was the name for another man, a famous man of some significance, but I hadn't known what his occupation was.

Jean-Jaques Rousseau was a famous philosopher, as was David Hume, and Desmond's full name is Desmond David Hume. Read more about David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, and you'll discover more about how similar his teachings are to Desmond's actions. He was inspired by John Locke.

It would be really interesting if there was something like that for Eko considering he now plays a huge role.

I had a feeling that might interest you. I wonder just how many people in Lost have some sort of link to historical figures like Locke. I knew that Locke shared the same name as the phillosipher but i never thought they would have something in common.

I'd say that's pushing it, but there has to be something to Locke's name, I doubt there's any coincidence there.

Both were played pivitol roles, but there isn't much else in common from what I can see at this time. The Philosipher was optimistic about society and had faith in humanity.
