Well, there are few good ones in the show category, and I do have some objections to many of the anime-based games (Kingdom Hearts) but if we're talking about Japanese games in general (Not just anime) there are many good options. Metal Gear is a great example, but it isn't for everyone. As I say, good animes are hard to find, and its all a matter of opinion.

Not this again, how many times have we ended something with a matter of perspective? I would say the Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross from what I hear would be amoung some of the good Japanese games. The artist for Chrono Trigger was the same guy who did Dragon Ball Z, now that is one of the few half decent anime shows of its time.

The similarities in the Chrono Trigger art and Dragonball Z's characters are quite apparent, whether that is good or bad is, again, a matter of opinion.

Neither did I at first, but once i took a closer look I knew they were similar enough to be made by the same guy.

Alternatively, you could just look in the end credits under Character Design, hm?

Often times there are scenes at the end of the credits, Chrono Trigger has some, but you can simply turbo through the credits if you like.

The events were the only thing of interest to me. Who did what didn't really matter to me at the time.
