I discovered a few websites a little while ago, referring the possible creation of an animated DragonLance movie (Whether this means 3D or 2D, I can't say for certain, but, in this day and age, it had better be 3D) set for release in 2007 or so. In case this isn't known, DragonLance is where Raistlin, my profile is from, and my expectations for this movie are infinately high as a result. Raistlin's voice is being played by the 24 star, Kiefer Sutherland. Whether he can actually do the voice right or he is merely being cast out of popularity and the hope to gain an extra dollar is unknown at this time. As I know it, it is being made by Paramount. (Heh, if only Square Enix could have somehow been involved) I can say with personal certainty that, if they need another year to make it great, then take two years--they are going out on a serious limb, and there is potential for success, or great, great disaster. Of course, perhaps some of you will go and see this movie, and if Raistlin turns out to be well played, form your own opinions, but if the movie, and specifically Raistlin doesn't turn out well, know that this is not how he should be. I await this movie with a critical eye, and even if they are true to the books, they could even spoil it then, if they pay too much attention to the other characters over Raistlin--a vital role they can't afford to screw up, they can't tell the story with a romantic Hollywood attitude, Raistlin's dark intelligence and ambition HAVE to be there. Any thoughts on this or related topics, or information not yet posted here?

Its about time another fantasy movie came out, but why would they use animation? 2D animation at that. 3D would look pretty good, and with real actors you could expect something similar to the Lord of the Rings quality. I would like it with real actors myself, but perhaps their method might work. Once it comes out I would like to see it myself. I wonder if there is anything of the sort happening to Forgotten Realms. Dragon Lance and Forgotten Reams are closely related, so one might never know. I'll investigate the matter.

Sadly there is no hope for the books i read to reac the theatre in the coming years. All but one, fortunately one of my favorites, Fahrenheit 451. I am very interested on how the main characters will be casted.
Anyway, your films sound like they have promise. I hope they fare well. let us hope that Fahrenheit 451, Dragonlance, and Forgotten Realms are released at the same time!

There is already a Farenhiet 451 but it is old. They might make a remake though. I doubt they will come out at the same time. If there is a Drizzt movie, then it might take 2 years or more. There is talk that the movie might not be the same plot from any of the books. It would just be the characters in a plot made by R.A. Salvatore. I've also heard that Dreamworks is planning to make this movie.

*Sigh* To my displeasure, it appears that the DragonLance movie will be 2D animated. Below is a link to the page where the concept art is listed. This fact alone has made their job of making a great movie even harder than it would have been. It is a grand shame to have it made like that, and if the characters end up looking like the concept art, the chance of a truly great movie are remote. www.dragonlance-movie.com/movie/gallery/show_category.asp?id=1

I hope they put more detail and realistic features into those concept arts.

I certainly hope so. I can't believe it looks like its going to be a CARTOON. If it does turn out to be one, what kind of image does that set? There hasn't been a non-Disney cartoon movie in years, and even Disney is moving away from that a bit. Looking at the characters, it looks like a rated G cartoon movie, the characters SHOULD NOT look like that--look at Pyros. Quite ugly, I must say, and it does not bode well. Unless this is early concept art that will later be turned into something better (3D hopefully, but I doubt it), they're going to have a hard time making it well. From my new information, I gather that its being produced by something called Toonz Animation--sounds like a cartoon to me. www.toonzanimationindia.com/toonz.htm

I can see the reason for your frustration, your favorite book being turned into a 2d cartoon. Let's ee, the last animated, not computer, nondisney movie...I cant think of one! DO you even plan on seeing it?

If your compairing it to Star Wars Clone Wars, then yes I can see why they would have to work hard to please Ras with style of animation.

Really, I don't see how they CAN satisfy me, now that they're using that kind of animation. Needless to say, they'll have to do a lot more work on the story and getting the characters and focus right than they have so far on the animation. As I said before, there hasn't been a non-Disney cartoon movie in years, and they certainly shouldn't be using it in THIS movie, right now it looks like its intended to be a G rated kid's movie! I can only imagine what they'll make Raistlin look like with this caliber of character art. . . As for your question, TMP, I'll see the movie, but I'll have a very critical eye, and will have careful watch on their interpretation of the characters (Raisltin in particular), and whether the characters are played right, the voices, the appearance, the story accuracy--everything. I understand that the authors of the books are heavily involved in the making of this movie, but what could they be thinking with this kind of material? If they don't do this right, I can only imagine what will turn out in the books specifically about Raistlin. . .

well, maybe there will be better movies to come, look at FF I, it was terrible, yet the ones after, were good.

Perhaps, but these movies will likely be coming out one after the other fairly quickly, probably one each year or so, FF evolved not only over years, but over consoles and technology as well, and the same technology will probably be used on the next movie as on the first. In a similar way, FF came up with new, fresh ideas for every game. This DragonLance movie is going from a pre-made storyline. Whether this is a good or bad thing has yet to be seen. Of course, there is the possibility that they might end up doing it right, who knows.

If they do just stick with their 2D animation, then chances are very likely that it will stay that way. Meaning if they mess up the first one, they would make the others not so great or they might be forced to change their format if they decide to continue at all.

I can't see them just changing their animation style after the first movie, it wouldn't really work. They've started this way, chances are they'll finish, for better or worse, the same way.
