I am sure you all have a basic concept about nuclear bombs. If not, read thisNow i was joking around with my friend today and teacher today about nuclear fusion, and we got talking about how it happened. The simplest way to put it is that you split an atom. Now imagine if you could split an atom by just clapping or doing a karate chop! Ninjas would be suicide ninjas, or some weak guy could just clap to explode. This may not seem funny, but to me it is, so for this thread to live on, talk about nuclear stuff here, like the debatability about nuclear bombs, etc.

I do find that funny, but as you already know its inaccurate. If atoms could be split that easily we would all be dead or never even existed by now. A chop just disperses the atoms.
I can see why people object to nuclear weapons: People can be seriously damaged by the radiation, but in a time of war they might be needed, so I would vote to keep the weapons handy just in case or not vote at all. It's too bad nuclear power isn't so big yet. The Chernobyl incident really made people think twice about it, but lets face it, we are going to have to relly on it sooner or later and why not? Once we perfect the problems that went wrong before, it could be a nearly unlimited source of energy and I recall it being environmentally friendly to all those worried about global warming.

A few years back we had a debate in history class about whether or not to use the atomic bomb. I was against, and i made a pretty good point about its non-weapon uses. In reality, these uses are limitless. Its harnessable energy is incredible, and it could last us 10,000 years! Its uses in battle are just as affective, and very neccessary. Nuclear weapons, i think, are needed.

They will be one day I think. We can't just become peaceful and cowardly. We should be peaceful, but ready to fight if the need comes. Those weapons could help in that department.

Yeah 1,500! There are several articles going around paralleling the current events in the Middle East to the events that occured in the late 1930s. THe difference is now that the people that would once charge in and kill everything are gone, they are replaced with the Negotiators

They don't seem to be doing so well though.

Clearly. There is talk of whether this business in the Middle East will spill out into a full-out World War 3. I can't really see it growing to that degree, though.

It is possible but I would think that something like that would require another country, a large one getting involved.

How large would you consider? Saddam performed a similar action upon Kuwait as Hitler to Poland. The events are similar but it would take more countries and more significant events to stir the war.

I was thinking along the lines of Russia or China, but i doubt they would get involved. True, for the most part it seems that the US has enough control to halt another world war from this.

Well, CHina is indirectly involved, the missiles that Syria supplied to Hezbollah in their attacks against Israel were made in CHina, but isn't everything these days

Or Japan, but I doubt China would go to war for that.
