Overview: Now, we all like to make signatures, and wallpapers with our favorite characters and such. But usually, the images we want to use, have a background, and when you take the image out of the background, there are very noticeable edges. This tut, will show you a incedibly easy way to remove edges. And make yor image look more natural.
Requirements: Photoshop.
Difficulty: 2 / 10
Step 1 : Get your image. For this tutorial, Im using Chrono. He has alot of edges, and serves as a good example. It doesnt matter what image you use. Since any image is compatible with this tut. Just try to choose one with alot of edges, like a face, or hair, ect. I mainly use the polygon Lasso tool for cutting out images. Make sure that the image however, is a RGB, and is not a background layer. Duplicated first!
Step 2 : Once done cutting out the image, you'll no doubt notice ugly edges! To better see this edges, make a new layer underneath your current layer, and fill it with black. This will cause those edges to stick out!
Step 3 : Now, find those edges, and zoom in. Something around 400% should do.
Step 4 : Select Your polygon Lasso tool again. And select the edges like this:
Step 5 : Guassian Blur it about 0.60. ( 1.00 on bigger edges )
Step 6 : Select the edge again, but a little less, like so:
Step 7 : Blur that about 0.25 ( 0.5 on big images/edges) And your done. The results are very noticeable.
This method is a excellent way of blurring the edges, and making the image nicer, and in the end, better looking!
Next up- I plan to write a Mass Select tutorial. Where you can automatically select the edges, and blur! Excellnt for where the entire image is edgy.
