You remember the episode when they look further back into Hurley's past in the mental institution don't you? I'm sure most Lost fans did, and as such you most likely recognized the new equation dropped into the whole sceme of things. Could the Island, the hatch, everything, be nothing more than Hurley's hallucinations? I would doubt it but knowing the creators of the show, anything is possible. And what did you see that person who would have become Hurley's girlfriend in the mental institution at the end? I wonder what that's all about. It played almost no signifigance after that but I suspect that it will resurface and it will play a role somehow. The quesion is how.

Suffice it to say, many strange things happened there. All of which make everything so much more confusing. His friend there for example. He was said to be imaginary, but after seeing the rest of that episode i don't know what to think of it anymore. Perhaps Dharma had an interest in Hurley while he was there and conducted some sort of expiriment.

maybe the Cerberus system read Hurleys mind, and took the forum of his worst fear, his imaginary friend. Ok, it might sound like scary, but think aobut it like this, Hurley only seen this person while he was insane, would you want to re-see that person later on? It would mean your insane again! So the Cerberus knew this, and took his form.

Clearly the Cerberus system has the ability to take different forms, but the odd thing is that in its other forms, it has usually had imperfections (The bird and the polar bear for example) I wonder how it could have imitated the form of Hurley's thoughts so perfectly.

Yes but almost everytime the Cerberus systems reads one's mind and discovers their fears, it kills the person. Why not Hurley? Unless he is like Locke where they both serve a purpose.

If you really believe that was why Locke was spared, perhaps.

It might also explain why it passed Eko as well. The system must have recognized them as contributors or future contibutors to the project.

Yes, or maybe as "good people" hence the others considereing themselves the good people.

Perhaps, but how do you figure a machine could know this? Or anyone who built it? (I refer to Mal's statements about Locke and Eko serving future purposes) But I suppose there are two sides to it, the faith and the science side, apparently your theory votes for the fate and destiny one by Locke and Eko being destined to contribute to the project. But who, knows, could be.

If it can read fears then in theory it should be able to read more than that.
