This may or may not have been said already....When Jack, Micheal, Sawyer, Kate, and Hurley arive at that large pile of containers with the notebooks from the Pearl Station. Clearly, there are at least 2 or 3 years worth of notebooks that ended up in the middle of nowhere being the end of the pneumatic tube. Sawyer finds Locke's copy of the Blast Door map.

Kate also reads out of those notebooks: "S.R. Goes to the Bathroom." This is either proof that the Pearl is a useless experiment or that there once was something there that is gone now that analzyed the pearl notebooks.

I just had an interesting thought: Perhaps the notebooks are supposed to land there, but not for no reason. Perhaps it's just a site for the Others to gather reports from the Pearl. In other words: It could be one of the Other's ways of spying on them.

To determine that Locke and perhaps a few others are "The good ones" or to determine if they plan to lauch a strike on them. If so than they could counter whatever they came up with.

True. If Micheal decided to betray them, then the others would know instantly.

The others must have had some interest in Desmond and Kelvin at some point, but never enought to show themselves to them.

Well there would be no Drama between to ex-military guys, but with 40+ people walking around they would have some fun watching the sparks fly.
