These theories have been officially discredited by the writers. I got these from wikipedia.
The survivors are dead and/or in Purgatory — dismissed by J. J. Abrams The survivors are in a time warp — dismissed by Damon Lindelof Spaceships or aliens influence the events on the island — dismissed by Damon Lindelof Everything seen is a fictional reality taking place in one or more of the survivors' minds — dismissed by Damon Lindelof
The "security system" is a dinosaur.
The island is a reality TV show and the castaways unwitting housemates — dismissed by Carlton Cuse The "black smoke" is a nanobot cloud similar to the one featured in Michael Crichton's novel Prey — dismissed by Damon Lindelof (sorry Doc. I like this theory too)
The pirates are, in fact, ''the others'' on the island, about whom Rousseau (Mira Furlan) warned the castaways. Which means that the kidnapped boy Walt (Malcolm David Kelly) shouldn't be too far away.
The plane did not crash by accident. It crashed for a very specific reason.
The castaways are "ghosts stuck in a tropical limbo"
There was no pole reversal
It is not 2012 and has nothing to do with the Mayans
So this narrows thing down a bit. I hope this helps.

Well, I was sorta disapointed but more glad it wasnt nano-tech. I dont want LOST becomming too Sci-Fi. I would like to see LOST as more of a FATE Show, with Locke and all.

I wouldn't mind it being sort of sci fi, but the answers must be revealed some day. Faith alone won't satisfy me.
