In the Jummy Kimmel Live interview with Hugh McIntyre, he said that the Hanso Foundation cut funding for Dharma in 1987. Why do you think this happene? Any ideas? Was it the incident in 1985? Tell me what you think.

Yeah, I heard about that too, theres this thought in my head that Dharma actually is gone, and the remaining people running Dharma are now knowen as "The Others"
I think The Hanso Foundation found Dharma too Unstable (with the incident and all) and deicided to pull the plug.

By the way, thanks for responding, and i thought that the incident was the reason that they cut the funding as well, cause it said the incident was in 1985, and the funding was cut in 87'.

Yeah, maybe The hanso group was kindof "Im not so sure about this, lets give it a try anyway" and then when the incident came along, "Thats it, were not doing this anymore" and there goes Dharma, what if they got a different funding from someone else?

Maybe the different funding was some kind of weapons manufacture or even the US government, using the island and Dharma to create weaponry. THe Others are a covert-ops force, (clicks, knives)

It makes sense, maybe since Dharma is no longer being funded by Hanso, they are know w weapons/assult group, not a science group.

That seems clear, but it almost appears as if they are trying to mantain an image of a research group, since the canisters of notebooks in the Pearl Station simply went to nowhere, to what purpose? But the smoke, the shark and the possibility of an electromagnetic shield (Possibly) shows that they are researching for, shall we say, purposes that are not necessarily ready to be accepted by society.

Perhaps their research is just too radical to be considered.

Hence the necessity to hide themselves from outside detection using the electromagnetic "shield". Though now that the shield dropped, I wonder what this means for the Dharma Initiative.

If it even still exists

It seems to, either that or their work was simply left behind. Some of it, at least.

Perhaps Dharma kept its technology secret even to their sponsors. If so, then the Hanso foundation would see that Dharma is not producing the promised results and just stops funding them.

Dharma originally was meat for experments in Phycology, Zoology, and Magnetism, so far, we found results of them all, and Im almost 100% sure that Hanso knows/knew what they were doing.

Yes, but with Lost, you're only ever 99% sure on anything, hm? But yes, there are clear examples of all the test parameters, but perhaps the Dharma Initiative's methods were too radical for the Hanso Foundation's taste.

Those weren't the only research topics. Utopian Socialism and Parapsychology are in there too, along with Meteorology.
