OK, it sounds like there's a lot of voice out there towards this topic, so what do you think of today's new games? How do the old SNes or other old console games stack up against today's new games?
My opinion on this is that the new games today are mostly based on movies, there are no original ideas, just crap taken from the theatres. These games are usually made too quickly (Usually due to EA games--they suck) and turn out to be crap. Sometimes, though, a good movie-based game comes out-- Star Wars Battlefront for example. On the other hand, I think the old games are way superior when it comes to story, they are a lot of fun and they leave a lot to the imagination. Another great element to the old games is challenge. Other opinions?

Though, RPG games have a great amount of challenge, which is great. Plus, the newer games have better graphics. But, as you said, the stories are either a movie, or it's made up and it's quite lacking.

Yeah, exactally. either way, I like the classic games for thier adventure, and Story, and I like the new games for thier graphics and special effects.

Yes, the problem with today's new games is the lack of ideas, they have the graphics and gamelplay, but the story--just about the most important thing in any game--is practically crap. Either that or its from a movie or a remake of an old game. Good new storylines are rare at best,

I have seen very little new games with a good story line. They depend too much on graphics and special effects. Those are meant as support to make a good game, not the main point of the game. I like the old game storylines, sure you have to use your imagination as the Doc said, so it's kind of like reading a book at the same time. I like it like that.

An argument against the old games, though could be that most of them are puzzle or turn-based games, not a whole lot of variety there. Of course, there are the pointless yet sometimes amusing arcade games...

I never found those amusing at all. Just dumb.

All a matter of preference, I suppose. I myself was never too fond of arcade games, story is definately a huge thing for me, I can't take a game seriously without it.
